There is a theory that mass farming like AOE has a drop rate nerf attached.
But solo killing -meaning targeting one monster at a time- is unaffected.
Sadly its hard to test.

Farming is done. Actually, loot is done. Just fall in line like Anet wants you to... into their abyss of gaming communism! Fall and perish in a realm of nothingness, a realm without distinction or strength... were men are made equal to one another under the foundation of tyranny and oppression! Bow down to the captor's of your electronic entertainment and kiss their feet, for you have no say in the consistency of your purchase!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Go check the farming forum, a topic called "Drop Rates - Fact or Myth". Your question is answered there...

But no cutting in. And yes, this is communism. Surprisingly.
State owned means of production, everyone working according to their abilities,...
And it works quite well. All it needs is a stock market...

This is madness, this is overreacting, blah blah blah. 2 things
1) The drops seem fine to me, even when nuking, *Huges his new req 9 +5 energy Chronium Shards*
2) Communism isn't bad, go ahead and flame me for that, I really mean it.

It's not like troll farming loot has ever been spectacular anyway.

My recent solo farming experiences confirm that killing mobs en masse with AOE spells etc gives a significantly lower drop rate than killing them individually.

Makes it actually interesting for an experiment. How much is the drop rate / hour
killing individually compared to aoe farming. Single takes longer but yields more drops. Aoe is shorter gives less drops, but you can do more of them in time.
What would the outcome be ^^.

I used a nuking build for the Dragon Moss farm and got 1 drop in 1 run i did that for about half an hour and did see no improvment, the only time i got 2-3 drops was when i missed one of the dragon mosses and they would then drop me another white *yey* i then changed to my sliver build and that works far better i get usually 9 drops with 1 gold on average per run. If i ever find the time ill make a table of the drop rates while nuke farming.

If it'd be communism, you'd be stripped of your godly items, ectos, cash, whatever enriches your ego.
People still have to farm to amass gold it doesn't just fly into your hands or gets mass-distributed through the Xunlai-Agency. You still have to do something and those who do get more. That didn't change.
Don't play truant, for your own sake.

i Find if i kill a mob of 10-15 how ever many spiders there are iwth SS at the same time i get 2-4 drops. Kill them one at a time and its alot better :/. I think it has somthing to do with them being "first in the zone"

Made the same experience. And I think you can call that a "farming code".

It's really about the # of kills made within a short time frame, not AoE or single-target per se. You get more drops killing minotaurs with -10 degen than sliver armor. (Of course, it also takes ages...)

Just killed 12 dragon moss in Hard Mode using a highly efficient retribution (1 damage)/lacerate with my Ele/Mo. Measly 160g as the reward.

Again, kills within a short time frame. That isn't the same as kills per time. If you stand there for 5 minutes and then all 12 dragon mosses drop within the next 30 seconds, your drops will still suck. It is analagous to the soul reaping timer, although it appears to be a more flexible scaling of % rather than a hard cap.

Actually...
What they're not telling you is that the drop rate is directly tied to the height of your character. The taller you are, the more drops you get. My Mending/Assassin's Promise mesmer is my tallest character and gets the most drops, especially when farming smites in Vabbi. PLUS! Each skill you take has an inherent drop modifier of a few tenths of a percent, some increase drop rate, some decrease it. Still trying to figure those out. Gotta go, meds time.
